It's a family thing.
Hi! I'm Karen and I've been baking for over 50 years, taught by my mom, who was taught by her mom. I, sadly, thought the tradition would end when my career left precious-little spare time. My mom (our girls' babysitter), though, had a trick up her sleeve.
Unknown to me, "Grandma" who made delicious meals and special treats for us while I was at work was involving my girls in her kitchen escapades. (Imagine my horror coming home to find my little four-year-old standing on a stool at the stove!) But, this special time with Grandma fueled Brenna's love for creating in the kitchen.
When I was diagnosed with multiple autoimmune conditions, our house was forced to become strictly and permanently gluten-free. But, ridding my diet of gluten didn’t change my sweet tooth (A box of Thin Mints is a serving, right?!) nor my love of baking. Since retiring, I've dedicated myself to perfecting gluten-free recipes so my family wasn't missing out. Now that Brenna has moved nearby, she's joined me in the kitchen and added her artistic touch.
Our friends and family (a.k.a. "taste testers") kept encouraging us to share our creations more widely. So welcome to Baked Smart, the mother-daughter duo committed to making tasty and fun gluten-free treats.
